Old enemy turned friend, Sergio Ramos has backed his Paris Saint-Germain team-mate Lionel Messi to win the Ballon d’Or for a record seventh time.
Messi, even with a shock summer transfer to PSG from Barcelona, has 24 goals in 28 league games this calendar year and led Argentina to the Copa America in the summer.
Even though it has been a turbulent year at Barca, Messi also won his seventh Copa del Rey title at the club before departing for Ligue 1 on a free transfer.
The 34-year-old is one of the front-runners on a 30-man shortlist which are to pick up the men’s award, but might be facing serious competition from the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Jorginho, Karim Benzema , alongside 26 others who also had an amazing year for club and country.
Former Madrid skipper, Ramos wishes Messi “all the luck in the world” ahead of the prestigious awards ceremony on Monday evening.
“Yes, of course [I hope he wins],” Ramos said. “I’m going to defend the guys in my team. I wish him all the luck in the world.

“I think that bit by bit, each of us is going to bring our own quality to make Paris Saint-Germain even greater and achieve the things we want to achieve.” He said
Ramos made his long-awaited PSG debut in Ligue 1 alongside Messi in their 3-1 win over Saint-Etienne on Sunday.

A number of Belgium players were involved in a dressing bust-up after their shock 2-0 defeat to Morocco at the 2022 World Cup.

According to RTL Sport, Kevin de Bruyne, Jan Vertonghen, and captain Eden Hazard clashed after the match.

Tensions were already high after De Bruyne told reporters before the game that the team was “probably too old” to win the trophy.

Those tensions now appear to have reached boiling point, as the three players let their tempers erupt following the loss.

Karim Benzema could make a surprising return to the France squad at the 2022 World Cup.

The 34-year-old had initially been ruled out through injury.

Benzema was expected to miss the entire tournament with a thigh problem.

France head coach, Didier Deschamps, opted not to call up a replacement and has continued with Kylian Mbappe, Olivier Giroud, Ousmane Dembele, Antoine Griezmann, Kingsley Coman and Marcus Thuram.

However, RMC Sport claims that Benzema could still return to the France setup as he returns to full training this week at Real Madrid.

Benzema could be fit enough to take part in the knockout stages of the World Cup.

FIFA rules permit players to return to their squads if they recover from injury if they had initially been named in the tournament squad before being ruled out.
