If you’ve ever experienced a wet dream, you’re not alone as millions of people have had wet dreams at least once.

What Is A Wet Dream?

Wet dreams, also called nocturnal emissions, have intrigued and sometimes made people feel embarrassed for a long time.

It’s a subject that can carry misunderstandings and shame. But, it’s a normal part of how our bodies work and grow.

Even though many people think wet dreams only happen to guys, research shows that around 66% to 85% of men and almost half of women have experienced wet dreams at some point in their lives.

What’s even more surprising is that some women have had wet dreams before they’re 13, and many keep having them even when they’re grown-ups and married.

This shows that wet dreams aren’t just for one gender. They can happen to anyone.

What Are The Causes Of Wet Dreams?

No single answer fits everyone because different things can lead to wet dreams. Here are some of those things:

Rapid Eye Movements (REM)

Rapid eye movements (REM) sleep is when we usually have wet dreams. This is the stage of sleep when we dream.

During REM sleep, our hearts beat faster, we breathe quicker, and our private parts get more active.

Some experts think that this increased activity in the private parts can lead to wet dreams in both guys and girls, but it’s often more obvious in guys because of the physical signs.

Girls also have some changes down there during REM sleep, like their clitoris getting bigger and their vagina swelling, even if they don’t realize it while they’re asleep.

Too Much Exposure To Sexual Contents

Wet dreams might happen when you see or hear things related to sex. Studies say that if you’re exposed to sexual stuff, you’re more likely to have wet dreams.

This means that what you watch or read during the day could affect your dreams at night.

It’s totally normal to dream about sex, no matter your gender. Research shows that about 8% of people have dreams about doing sexual things, and about 4% even have dreams that end with an orgasm.

So, having these kinds of dreams is perfectly fine, even if you’re not sexually active.

Genital Stimulation And Sleeping Position

Sometimes, when people are sleeping, they can accidentally touch their private parts with the bedsheets or blankets.

This can happen because those parts become more sensitive during sleep. When this touch occurs, it might lead to an ejaculation or an orgasm.

Also, if someone sleeps on their stomach, it can make wet dreams more likely because it puts pressure on those sensitive areas.

Hormones and Puberty

Wet dreams usually start happening during puberty, which is when your body goes through big changes.

These changes are because of hormones. These hormones affect both boys and girls.

When you hit puberty, your body starts making more testosterone if you’re a boy and more estrogen if you’re a girl. This is a normal part of growing up.

Can Wet Dreams Be Prevented?

Wet dreams are a natural part of our bodies and there’s no need to feel embarrassed about them.

They happen while you’re asleep, so you don’t really control them. But if you want to have them less often, here are a couple of things you can try:

Firstly, You need to adjust your sleeping position. Sleeping on your stomach might lead to more wet dreams, so try sleeping in a different position that’s more comfortable for you. Also, wearing loose-fitting clothes can help reduce any extra stimulation. So, consider wearing less tight underwear to sleep.

Secondly, If you’re the type that you cannot sleep without watching blue film, be ready for wet dreams when you sleep. This is because watching or reading explicit things before going to sleep might lead to more erotic dreams. So, try to avoid that, and it might help you have fewer wet dreams.
