As the world familiarizes itself with Nigeria’s booming afro-fusion hip-hop, afrobeat, dancehall, pop hybrid, the other side of the country’s sounds may seem like uncharted territory, Asa has been present and consistent in her singular, distinct voice that cuts through the noise.

Her soon to be released fifth album, was recorded after the lockdown put a stop to her 42 city LUCID tour and forced Asa to leave her Paris base for home in Lagos, a welcomed solitude, which resulted in beautiful encounters and an album full of brightness, cheekiness, heartfelt emotions and features for the first time ever.

The new song “Mayana” is to whet her fans’ appetite before the real deal comes in 2022. Asa showcases her Afro-fusion game and beautiful vocals on this impressive single.

The new single “Shine” is a combination of Afrobeat and Contemporary Gospel vibe to create a unique sing-along praise groove. The colourful video is an apt interpretation of the energetic festive mood and celebration tone of the song.

The props also complement the thematic preoccupation of the song beautifully. The use of glittering costumes and bright backdrop is a pointer towards the theme. The dance steps and wide smiles as well.

The Sammie Okposo brand is not relenting on its supply of exceptional materials just yet. He kicked the year off with a very energetic Amapiano praise single titled “Comot Body”. The single, which features two veteran Gospel powerhouse – Mike Abdul and Bidemi Olaoba – was complemented with a video that reflects the high-spirited sound.

The new single “Shine” is an apt follow up to that effort replicating the adrenalin rush but with more professionalism and vocal dexterity.

It is a confession of the grace of God upon the minister, and a response of gratitude for the grace. Sammie Okposo posited that the life of God in a man by the access Jesus grants us to come without restrictions beautifies the life of God, thereby making him shine.

VIDEO: Chidinma – Osuba

Published

on

Chidinma has premiered a cozy video with a rich display of the western Nigeria culture and diction for her applauded single, ‘Osuba.’

‘Osuba’ is Chidinma’s follow-up single to her love song ‘For You,’ which dropped in February 2022.

The single, which was released spontaneously, seems to be doing the most significant number amongst Chidinma’s releases for this year (Except for “Chukwuoma” released last month and surpasses those as mentioned earlier) with close to a million views on YouTube and more than a thousand testimonies!

It is unique for its genre and instrumentation, but much more, backed by an unusual anointing. It is a worship song with a difference, expressing intimacy with a Father who is also a King.

Chidinma’s expression is not that of a distant citizen of the Kingdom but more of a King’s daughter paying homage to her father, who is also the King.

The song will leave you panting for more because of its brevity, but that’s the beauty as well. She kept it short, powerful, and straight to the point, leaving one’s subconscious yearning for more of Chidinma’s materials.
